Description: Have you ever wanted to try making a shawl but didn't know where to start? Have you made a shawl or two and might like to try a new knitting technique like lace or color work? Are you a Stephen West fan, or not, but might be curious about a mystery shawl Knit-a-Long?
This class is for any knitter at any skill level who wants to make a shawl in a creative and supportive environment. There are multiple pattern suggestions listed, but you are not limited to those choices. Select your pattern, lean on the Lovely Ladies of Lift Bridge yarns to help you find the perfect yarn and needles, and Nancy will guide and help you make a shawl worthy of your dreams.
Materials needed
- Yarn weight suggested in your pattern
- Needles suggested in your pattern. IF IN DOUBT, BUY 1 SKEIN AND SWATCH!!!
- Stitch Markers, Point Protectors
- A Sense of Humor :)
- Suggested Patterns:
- Beginner: The Age of Brass and Steam by Orange Flower Yarn; Boneyard by Stephen West
- Beginner Lace: Tidelines by Janina Kallio
- Beginner Colorwork: Drachenfels by Melanie Berg
- Intermediate Colorwork: Night Shift by Andrea Mowry
- Intermediate Lace: Clapotis by Kate Gilbert (do not have to use Aran weight yarn !
- Challenge Lace and Colorwork: Aisling by Justin Lorkowska
Skills Needed:
- You MUST know how to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off
Skills Learned (potentially):

- I-Cord Tab Cast On
- Use of markers
- Counting Rows
- Slip Stitch Colorwork
- Increases and Decreases for Shawl Shaping
- Adding yarns
- (Very Advanced) Adding Short Rows for Rounded Shoulders

Nancy Vandivert happily admits to being knitting nerd. She's been sewing, knitting, crocheting, spinning, and doing needlework since she was a wee one mercilessly bugging her mother. She designs as Nancy Vandivert on Ravelry and has had patterns published by Knit Picks, Interweave Knits, I like Knitting, Twist Collective, and CAST ON. She's been teaching knitting in the Rochester regional area for over 20 years. Oh, and don't get her started on knitting faster.....
