We are *so* excited to now offer a sock tube knitting service!

Please read this description in its entirety before placing your order. PLEASE NOTE: You are purchasing an unfinished sock tube, NOT a finished pair of socks.

Need to rock out socks for gifting? Love wearing hand knit socks but don't love knitting them? Sock tubes are your new best friend!

We will crank your skein of sock/fingering weight yarn into a tube that you can then split & knit the cuff, heel and toe by hand. This takes the boring part out of sock knitting & lets you quickly finish pair after pair.

Step 1: PICK YOUR YARN

• Find our selection of sock yarns available here: Sock Yarns -OR-
• Use a skein of sock yarn purchased elsewhere*

Step 2: PICK YOUR SIZE

• 64 sts around (approx. 7.25” circumference- average women’s size)
• 72 sts around (approx 8” circumference- average men’s size)

Step 3: HOW MUCH SHOULD WE KNIT?

• Would you like us to hold back yarn for heels/toes/cuffs? Let us know at checkout if you'd like 10, 20 or 30 grams held back for knitting your toes, heels and cuffs. (10-20 grams is usually plenty!)

Step 4: WE WILL CONTACT YOU WHEN YOUR TUBES ARE READY!

Sock Tube FAQS

• All orders will be cranked in the order they are received, usually within one week.
• Each quantity of 1 sock tube is 100 grams of yarn. This can be in a single skein or two 50 gram skeins.
• Waste yarn will be knit onto either end of your sock tube and in between each 50 gram skein if you have two 50 gram skeins cranked.
• Never done an afterthought heel, separated a sock tube or just need a refresher? Susan B. Anderson’s Smooth Operator Socks pattern on Ravelry has great instructions on how to knit an afterthought heel & toe. You can also find a fantastic in-depth video tutorial here.

Circumference and Gauge

• Your sock tube’s gauge will be in the range of 8.5-8.75 sts/inch, depending on the thickness of your yarn. With some lighter yarns and with 72 stitch tubes we may be able to get 9 sts/inch. 
• Gauge and circumference measurements are not guaranteed since they greatly depend on the yarn being knit.

Yarn Purchased Elsewhere

We are happy to crank sock tubes with yarn you've purchased at other shops. If you aren't local you are responsible for shipping your yarn to us to be cranked & paying for return shipping. We will be in touch with you to coordinate return shipping.
