How to make mittens are a basic skill that should be in every knitter's tool kit.  Tin Can Knits The World's Simplest Mittens pattern make learning this easy peasy!  You can use fingering, DK, worsted, or chunky yarns and make Toddler, Child, or Adult S, M, L sizes.  Nancy will help you learn Magic Loop, Two Circular Needles, or how to make friends with your trusty DPNs.  Mittens are a great stash buster and are also great charity knitting projects for the upcoming winter season.  Start by making a child's size so it is not too large a project, and then treat yourself to a luxurious pair of hand knit mittens to keep your hands warm!
